This Reus
architect (1870-1952), began his career collaborating with Antoni Gaudí in
works like la Sagrada Familia, “Casa Batlló” and “Güell” Park. Important
among the works done alone are: “Casa Macari Golferichs” (1901), “Casa
Roviralta” and “El Frare Blanc” (1903-1913), in Barcelona, and the “Banco de
Sóller” (1910-1912). In the Tarragona area, the Reus pharmaceutical
businessman, Antoni Serra Pàmies, became his Patron and entrusted him with
several jobs where Rubio showed his talent, such as: the “Laboratorios
Serra” (1911-1912). Like so many Modernist artists, Joan Rubió i Bellver got
involved in the political development of Catalonia. |

As an important member of the
“Lliga Regionalista” (Regionalist League), he took part in the political
experience of the “Mancomunitat”. He was also a councillor of the Barcelona
City Council and collaborated with the “Diputació” of Barcelona where he was
appointed architect of the institution. He wrote his theoretic reflections
in the main press of his day, such as, the “La Veu de Catalunya” (Voice of
Catalonia). |
