This
Barcelona architect (1877-1951), like most of the Modernists was actively
involved in the associative, cultural and intellectual life of Catalonia and
produced some of the most notable buildings in Sabadell: “Casa Blanxart”
(1904-1907), the central building of the “Caja de Ahorros de Sabadell”
(Sabadell Savings Bank) (1905) and the “Cine Imperial” (1910). Jeroni
Martorell was also prominent for his architecture theory, published in
numerous articles and books, as well as introducing the so-called “Sezession
Vienesa”. From 1915 onwards, he turned to restoring and recovering the
heritage of Catalan monuments. Due to his work, Catalonia recovered hundreds
of churches, buildings and monuments of greatest artistic and historical
value.
