Pau Monguió
(1865-1956) is one of the most outstanding architects in the Tarragonian
districts during the Modernist period. He was the first to use brick as a
structural element in façades – a normal technique in the “Mudéjar”
architecture that he had encountered as Teruel municipal architect during
the early years of his career – which was to be developed later by many
Modernist authors. The Tortosa Slaughter House (1905-1908), “Casa Grego”
(1906-1908) and “Casa Pallarés” (1906-1907), in that city, are three of his
most outstanding works and endow the capital of the Baix Ebre with Modernism
at its highest level. |
