SUPERIOR DOUBLE ROOM 204
de Pau Monguió i Segura

Pau Monguió (1865-1956) is one of the most outstanding architects in the Tarragonian districts during the Modernist period. He was the first to use brick as a structural element in façades – a normal technique in the “Mudéjar” architecture that he had encountered as Teruel municipal architect during the early years of his career – which was to be developed later by many Modernist authors. The Tortosa Slaughter House (1905-1908), “Casa Grego” (1906-1908) and “Casa Pallarés” (1906-1907), in that city, are three of his most outstanding works and endow the capital of the Baix Ebre with Modernism at its highest level.

Antiguo Matadero de Tortosa

The works of authors like Monguió in Tarragona districts give the lie to the false idea that Modernist architecture was only fully developed in Barcelona.
