Right from
the outset of his career, this Reus architect (1878-1938) was the disciple
and collaborator of Antoni Gaudí, who came from the same town. His almost
exclusive dedication to the latter had its negative effect on the
recognition of Sugranyes’ own projects, many of which were not edited. The
“Voramar Chalet” in Salou (1918), however, was actually built. It is a
splendid building showing the enormous talent of Sugranyes, and bringing
into relief, all the more, the merit of his sacrifice on behalf of Gaudí’s
work. It was Sugranyes who directed the work of the Sagrada Familia after
the death of Gaudí in 1926. The latter was only able to see one of the
towers of the Nacimiento façade; Sugranyes managed to raise three more.
